We threw our first retreat in El Salvador last weekend

I figured this would be a good time to tell you more about what I'm doing and why I'm down here.
We threw our first retreat in El Salvador last weekend

I generally keep this newsletter pretty personal, so it would come as no surprise if you, dear reader, have no idea what I’m actually doing in El Salvador.

The story of how it came to be is for another time, but I moved my family here to build out a “new paradigm” project that my co-founder and I knew could only be done in a forward-thinking jurisdiction, friendly to sound money principles and, unlike the USA, with actual legal frameworks for using new & innovative technologies in the real world.

What are we building here?

It’s called Sovereignty Studios.

At a high level, we’re creating a platform for people to come into their own power, take back control of their life and make the moves necessary to avoid the misgivings of backwards and often predatory regimes (more on this in a little bit.)

Sovereignty Studios started as a podcast and content agency for values-aligned clients, but in the last 2 months we seem to have expanded into a full-on media & events company, getting the attention of some very big local names and we're now booking gigs.

Last weekend, we threw our first retreat and held our official launch party in the middle of it.

It was epic.

We thought our launch party would be a small event to build social proof and put our name out there, but it transformed into a rager with over 100 people and local celebrities asking to come speak.

This is the only video of the weekend we’ve got edited so far, but at least it shows a bit of the energy of the party (plus you get to see my rockstar debut):

The retreat itself was geared to introduce people to El Salvador, a potential beacon of hope, free speech, and freedom.

We had 22 guests!

What this weekend has shown me is that what we are really doing is building a strong community of freedom-oriented individuals.

It’s become apparent that there is a huge need for people to discover options and create a plan B for escaping the collapse of the “West”... and when there's a problem to solve, there is a business to build!

El Salvador is Forward-Thinking

Along with Singapore and Dubai, El Salvador is currently one of the only countries in the world with a regulatory environment that encourages actual innovation.

To spell this out, I’m sure you’ve noticed that for the past 10-15 years ish, the only “innovations” we’ve seen in consumer technology are better phone cameras, more megapixel computer screens, slightly faster processing chips, etc.

Cool, but trivial.

This is because every industry becomes a race to the bottom when your society does not use sound money. It equates to stealing when the state’s central bank prints more dollars out of thin air at will, as our savings become diluted and businesses must charge more money to stay profitable.

(Remember when $20 used to feel like a lot of money? I do.)

Because of this, big tech must stick to “what works” instead of exploring paradigm-changing technologies… because those can be risky.

Bitcoin changes all that, because it is economic truth etched into an incorruptible ledger, and it doesn’t require the approval of, well, anyone.

And El Salvador has adopted Bitcoin as legal tender.

For the uninitiated, here’s a quick few minutes on this topic from a recent episode of our podcast:

The Sovereign Individual Thesis is Playing Out.

As the traditional “West” degenerates in terms of culture, politics, and intelligence, these forward-thinking jurisdictions like El Salvador are beginning to move past the dying fiat currency societal models and build out prototypes for the future of nation states.

And what does that look like? The new successful nation-state wants the individual to thrive.

Remember how we were taught that government is supposed to be there for us, the people? It’s crazy that we live in a world where so few countries actually have regimes in power that want the best for the people in free market environments.

I recommend reading The Sovereign Individual: Mastering the Transition to the Information Age for a longer and more articulate description of this transition.

(and upon request, I’ll write an e-mail to summarize it, just reply to this e-mail)

So we’ll see what happens.

No future is certain. El Salvador could still go either way.

But fortunately, this movement isn’t limited to a single geographic location nor must it be. This model will start sprouting up in smaller countries trying to attract talent and capital into their borders, as that same talent and capital must flee the empires crumbling at their feet.

We represent that talent and capital, and as such we have an opportunity to work with incredible and inspiring people.

The writing’s on the wall, as far as I’m concerned, so I’m happy that I can be working on something greater than myself in a place where my kids can (for the time being, at least) grow up safe from the overreaching arms of predatory governments.

I know I covered a lot of ground pretty quickly here, but my inbox is open if you want to talk about it or ask questions. I’m happy to keep writing about this stuff if there’s demand.
